Crochet Bunny Ears Headband Pattern with Adjustable Ties
Turn simple chains into cute bunny ears with this adjustable crochet headband, designed with long ties for an easy custom fit.
This crochet bunny headband combines two simple colors with curved shaping to create playful ears that stand upright once their bases are folded and sewn. Long crochet ties make the band easy to adjust, while the layered ear pieces add contrast and dimension.
Kid sizing starts with 50 foundation chains, but changing that starting length makes this crochet design useful beyond one age group. Switch colors to coordinate with outfits, create an Easter accessory, or turn it into part of a quick Halloween costume.

Finished Size & Customization
Base pattern uses 50 foundation chains for kids’ sizing.
For adult sizing, add more chains to the initial foundation chain until the band fits comfortably around the head. Tie length can also be changed by increasing or decreasing starting chain count for each tie.
Color changes offer another easy variation. Choose matching shades for everyday wear, bright colors for Easter, or costume-friendly colors for Halloween.

Crochet Headband Base
Use Pink yarn for headband base. Keep foundation chain relaxed rather than pulling it tightly, since this chain determines finished circumference.
Step 1 – Foundation Chain: Make a slip knot and CH 50 for kid size. Add more chains if making adult size or if extra circumference is needed.
Step 2 – Round 1 (R1): Skip 2 chains from hook; DC into 3rd chain and continue with 1 DC in each chain until final chain, giving 49 DC along this stretch according to tutorial; work 5 DC into final chain to curve around end; working down opposite side of foundation chain, make 48 DC; work 3 DC into very last stitch at base of starting chains; SL ST to top of first stitch to join round.
Those 5 DC at one end create rounded shaping rather than leaving foundation chain with straight corners. Keep stitches evenly spaced as you work back along opposite side.
Step 3 – Round 2 (R2): CH 1; SC in each stitch until reaching curved end containing 5 DC; work 4 INC, placing 2 SC in each of next 4 stitches around curve to keep edge flat; continue with 1 SC in each stitch down opposite side; SL ST into first stitch to join round.
The increases are concentrated around the curved section so the edge can spread smoothly instead of pulling upward.
Add Adjustable Ties
Ties are made directly from the headband edge, so check their placement before beginning each chain.
Step 4 – First Tie: Continue with SL STs along headband edge until reaching middle section of curved end; CH 50, or more for longer tie; skip 1 chain from hook and SL ST back along entire chain until reaching headband base; continue with SL ST around headband edge until reaching opposite curved end.
Keep return slip stitches fairly even. Tight tension can make long ties stiff, so allow each chain to sit naturally while working back.
Step 5 – Second Tie: Repeat opposite side by CH 50, or more for desired length; skip 1 chain from hook; SL ST down entire chain; SL ST back into headband; fasten off and weave in ends.
Before finishing, place the band around the intended head size and check both ties for similar length.
Make Two Outer Bunny Ears
Use Purple yarn and make 2 outer ears.
Step 1 – Foundation: Make a slip knot and CH 15.
Step 2 – First Side: Skip 2 chains; DC into the 3rd chain from the hook and continue with DC until the final chain, giving 13 DC total; turn work.
Step 3 – Second Side & Curve: CH 2; make 13 DC back up piece; make 4 DC into top 2-chain space to form rounded ear tip.
Step 4 – Finishing Outer Ear: Continue down opposite side with 13 DC; fasten off, leaving long tail for sewing.
Make second outer ear using same sequence.
Make Two Inner Bunny Ears
Use Pink yarn and make 2 inner ears.
Step 1 – Foundation: Make a slip knot and CH 13.
Step 2 – First Side: Skip 1 chain from hook; make 12 HDC across chain; turn work.
Step 3 – Second Side & Curve: CH 1; make 12 HDC back up the piece; make 3 HDC into the top chain space at the curve.
Step 4 – Finishing Inner Ear: Continue down opposite side with 12 HDC; fasten off, leaving tail for sewing.
Make second inner ear using same sequence.
Join Each Layered Ear
Place each Pink inner ear directly over matching Purple outer ear. This is where careful stitch placement creates clean color separation.
Crucial Joining Technique: Sew through BACK LOOPS ONLY of Pink inner ear and FRONT STITCHES ONLY of Purple outer ear. Continue around corresponding edges so the inner piece stays neatly positioned without bulky overlapping stitches.
Once both layers are joined, check that the Pink section remains centered inside the Purple border before shaping the base.
Fold Ear Base for Upright Shape
Pinch the bottom base of each assembled ear in half and sew the two sides of the bottom edge together.
This folded section gives the ear its slightly gathered, upright 3D form. Keep fold centered so both ears sit at similar angles when attached to headband.
Attach Bunny Ears to Headband
Find the top center of the pink headband base and position the folded bases of both ears.
Sew each folded ear base securely into the headband, checking spacing from the center before fully tightening stitches. Keep both ears balanced in height and angle for an even finished look.
Fasten off and weave in remaining loose ends.
